He was born in Patras in 1954 and studied Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Turin (1977). He holds two Master's degrees: one from the Panteion University in Regional Development (1979) and one from the University of New York in Urban Planning (1983). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of the Aegean - Department of Environment (1996). The topic of his doctoral thesis was "The Impacts of Organizing the Olympic Games in Large Urban Centers."
He has been systematically involved with the Olympics, their significance, and their impacts since 1986, working as an assistant and collaborator of the late Professor G. Kandylis and as a member of the Executive Team of Athens' Candidacy File for the 1996 Olympic Games. He has organized and participated in numerous conferences and seminars in Greece and abroad, focusing on the economic, social, environmental, administrative, and urban planning dimensions of the Olympic Games. Many articles and announcements regarding the Olympic Games have been published in both Greek and foreign press.
He participated in the team that conducted the study "The Future of the Olympic Games" commissioned by the IOC (1994). In 1996, he became the head of Athens' Candidacy File for the 2004 Olympic Games. In July 2004, his book titled "The Struggle of a City" was published, presenting and analyzing Athens' efforts to host the 2004 Olympic Games, as well as the phenomenon of the Olympic Games' influence on the transformation of a modern metropolis.
In 2016, the book he co-authored with historian Nikos Choutas titled "Athens 2004 Olympic Games: Assessment of the Games' Impacts on Society and Economy through Critical Approach: Truths and Myths" was published by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC). He has scientifically followed and studied the organization of all Summer and Winter Olympic Games from Seoul 1988 to Rio 2016.
Recognizing his long-standing contribution to the Olympic Movement, the International Olympic Committee honored him with the "Pierre de Coubertin" Medal (2015).
In his professional career, he has collaborated with the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Housing, and Environment (EPA), the Center for Planning and Economic Applications (KEPE), the Ministry of Culture as Coordinator of the National Cultural Network of Cities, and the Ministry of Education. He has served on the Boards of Directors of various organizations including the State Land Company (KED), the Public Corporation for Urban Planning & Housing (DEPOS), the Music and Educational Organization of Greece, the Thessaloniki - Cultural Capital of Europe Organization (OPPE), the National Foundation for Repatriated Greeks (EIAPOE), the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), the Hellenic Equestrian Federation (EIO), the International Olympic Academy (IOA), the National Olympic Academy (EThNAOA), the OAKA, among others.
He has also served as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Merchant Marine (YEN) and as a CEO of the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee.
From 1979 until recently, he has practiced as a freelance professional specializing in Architectural Studies of Sports Facilities and Urban Planning Regulations.
He co-founded with other engineers the consulting firm DEKATHLON S.A., of which he is currently President & CEO, contributing significantly to studies of Olympic and Sports Facilities in Greece and abroad.
He is also the President of the Board of Directors of the Charitable Foundation "Dimitris & Lilis Stavropoulos: The House of the Greek Student," former President of the Hellenic Archery Federation (2012 to March 2021), and a Member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC). Finally, at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he will be the Head of the Greek Olympic Mission.
