Angelos Rouvalis was born in Aegion in 1952 and embarked on an impressive career in the wine industry after studying chemistry with a specialization in enology in Bordeaux. In 1982, he became the first oenologist to revolutionize winemaking in the vineyards of Santorini, bottling for the first time the PDO Santorini dry white wine and rediscovering the forgotten Vinsanto wines in the submerged canavas (cellars) of Therasia.
In 1990, he built the state-of-the-art gravity-fed winery on the slopes of Aegialia, recognizing the great potential of this mountainous viticultural zone and the ancient Greek variety cultivated there: Roditis. From the mountainous Roditis grapes, Angelos Rouvalis created "Asprolithi," a wine that marked the rebirth of Greek wine.
He quickly inspired a large group of viticulturists in Aegialia, who began systematically cultivating old Greek and international grape varieties in the region. With deep knowledge of Greek wine and a strong vision, he served as President of the Union of Greek Wine (SEV) for seven consecutive years (2008-2014). Under his presidency, SEV laid the foundation for a comprehensive marketing strategy for Greek wines, organized the first viticulture conference in 2012, and effectively promoted collaborations with tourism. Angelos Rouvalis also founded OINOXENIA, an institution promoting wine, gastronomy, and quality tourism in Aegialia.
