Archaeologist - Byzantine Specialist, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia
Born in Athens, she lives and works in Patras.
She holds a degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), as well as a Master’s degree and a PhD specializing in Byzantine painting from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University.
Since 2006, she has served as the Director of the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, overseeing the regions of Achaia and Elis, and since 2014, she has been the Director of the unified Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia.
From 2001 to 2007, she taught Byzantine Archaeology and Art as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras.
She has conducted extensive excavation activities, leading systematic research in Ancient Aigeira and Ancient Tritaia in Achaia.
Under her supervision and management, 43 restoration, conservation, and enhancement projects have been completed on archaeological sites and monuments, including Byzantine churches and medieval castles in Achaia, Elis, Aetolia-Acarnania, and Zakynthos. Additionally, she has overseen three museum projects: The creation of the permanent exhibition of Byzantine and post-Byzantine antiquities at the Archaeological Museum of Pyrgos, The creation of the permanent exhibition "The Age of the Knights: The Crusaders in Morea" at Chlemoutsi Castle in Elis, The expansion of the permanent exhibition at the Aigio Museum.
In the museum sector, under her curation and coordination, 25 temporary exhibitions (archaeological, visual arts, archival, photographic, and others) have been organized at the Archaeological Museum of Patras from 2014 to the present.
Her main academic interests focus on Byzantine painting and medieval fortifications.
She has an extensive publication record, including monographs, scientific exhibition catalogs, and numerous articles.
She is married to lawyer Thanasis Vgenopoulos and has two children.
