Alexandros Panagiotopoulos lives in Messolonghi and is a graduate of the Department of Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Since 2018, he has founded and managed the organization “Messolonghi by Locals,” an initiative aimed at highlighting the cultural identity and heritage of Messolonghi through participatory processes that encourage active citizen involvement. As a cultural manager, Alexandros works to ensure that the organization serves as a bridge between the local community and its cultural wealth, inviting residents to contribute to the preservation and promotion of their hometown.
As part of Messolonghi by Locals’ activities, he has created the social and cultural space “Local Hub,” an open venue in the city center that serves as a meeting point for events, seminars, and initiatives that foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas among citizens.
Additionally, as a cultural manager, he coordinates the annual “Festival of Locals: Explore the Local Identity,” a three-day event featuring experiential activities and events that showcase Messolonghi’s cultural heritage. This festival provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to explore the city through various cultural expressions. The festival has been successfully held six times to date, offering unique experiences and contributing to the strengthening of the local culture.
Through Messolonghi by Locals, Alexandros also promotes responsible and experiential tourism, highlighting the authentic experiences that Messolonghi has to offer to visitors who wish to discover the area with respect for its local culture and environment. Every day, he dedicates his time to organizing and coordinating initiatives that promote cultural heritage and the sustainable development of the region, helping to create a more vibrant and sustainable social fabric for Messolonghi.
