Ilias Mentzelopoulos was born on May 10, 1959, in Kavala, Greece. He is married and the father of three children.

He studied at the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Patras, where he obtained a degree from the School of Electrical Engineering. He later pursued postgraduate studies in Computer Science at Columbus University in Ohio, United States.

For many years he has been active in the tourism and hospitality sector. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Mentzelopoulos Hotels S.A.”, the company that owns the Astir Hotel in Patras. He is also Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the tourism, commercial and industrial company “Intermont S.A.”, owner of the Denia Hotel in Nafpaktos.

He has also contributed to the professional hospitality sector as a member of the Board of Directors of the Achaia Hoteliers Association.

He speaks English, French and Italian.
