Gabriel Sakellaridis was born in Nea Smyrni in 1980 and originates from Nisyros, Greece. He is an economist with postgraduate studies in Athens, New York, and London, and has professional experience in the banking and research sectors.

From 2021 to 2023, he served as Director of Eteron – Institute for Research and Social Change, while from 2017 to 2021 he was Director of the Greek Section of Amnesty International.

Since December 2024, he has served as Secretary of the Central Committee of the New Left party. In June of the same year, he was a candidate for the European Parliament with the same political party.

In January 2015, he was elected Member of Parliament for Athens A with SYRIZA, a position from which he resigned in November of the same year. From January to July 2015, he served as Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson.

In the 2014 municipal elections, he ran for Mayor of Athens with the “Open City” coalition, receiving 48.6% in the second round. Since 1999, he has been an active member of the SYRIZA Youth, with strong involvement in social and political movements.
